First Look: New Rifles for 2010 (Page 3)

America’s shooting industry is offering an extensive array of new rifles and muzzleloaders for 2010, and we have highlighted many of the most innovative here.

WEATHERBY announces its entry into the tactical and self-defense markets with its Mark V SUB-MOA TRR (Threat Response Rifle). It features an adjustable-comb, hand-laminated composite stock with aluminum bedding block, custom Krieger barrel and hand-tuned, adjustable trigger. It’s guaranteed to shoot under an inch. Somewhat less expensive but featuring the same accuracy guarantee is the Vanguard SUB-MOA TR (Tactical Rifle). It features a stiff 22-inch barrel and a premium composite stock. The new PA-459 pump shotgun features a rubberized, 13.5-length pistol grip-style buttstock ideal for close quarters work. A ghost ring sight, Picatinny rail for mounting a flashlight and five-plus-one magazine gives the gun an intimidating look that precedes its deadly bark.

new line of AR-style rifles chambered in 6.8 mm Rem. SPC includes the Recon, Tactical Hunter Lightweight and M4-T. All come with a match-grade barrel, a ventilated, quad-rail fore-end, a Magpul CTR buttstock and MOE pistol grip, and an Armor-Tuff finish. Based on the Mk12 series of rifles employed by U.S. Special Operations Forces, the Special Purpose Rifle is chambered in 5.56 NATO and has an 18” match-grade barrel, rifle-length gas system and an A2-style buttstock. The Tactical Supergrade Professional 1911 marries a compact slide to a full-length frame and utilizes a 4” stainless steel, match-grade, coned barrel. Typical of the company’s Supergrade line, the entirely handcrafted pistol is loaded with custom features like machined Bullet Proof components, a Speed-Chute magazine well, and hand-cut checkering and serrations. The Ultralite Carry pistol is a full-size 1911 with an aluminum frame having carry cuts, a rounded mainspring-housing butt and a shortened beavertail to reduce weight. For the ladies, the Ms. Sentinel chambered in 9 mm is built on the company’s shortest aluminum frame with a 3.5” slide and fluted barrel to minimize weight and dimensions.

WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS’ big news is the return of the Model 94 lever-action rifle in two Limited Edition models commemorating the 200th anniversary of Oliver F. Winchester’s birth in New England in 1810. A Model 1894 Custom Grade and Model 1894 High Grade will be offered in .30-30 Win.’ M70 Extreme Weather SS has a Bell and Carlson composite stock, a textured charcoal gray matte finish, a thick, black Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad and the famous claw extractor offers controlled-round feeding. It has a free-floating, fluted, stainless steel barrel. The company’s new Model 70 Safari Express comes in a matte blued finish and has a Pre-’64 type claw extractor and Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. It has also introduced a M70 Stealth, a M70 Supergrade and a M70 Ultimate Shadow. Other new rifles include a Model 1895 Grade with a blued receiver, lever, straight buttplate and barrel, an 1895 High Wall Safari Octagon and an 1892 Trapper Takedown. The Super X3 All-Purpose Field shotgun has a 31/2-inch chamber and a gas-operated “Active Valve System” that cycles a wide variety of loads and reduces felt recoil. Its bolt is plated with “electroless nickel” to reduce friction. Other Super X3 shotguns include a Compact Field and a Sporting Adjustable.
