Ducks Unlimited will receive a $2.5 million grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to build a habitat for waterfowl and other birds that will migrate to the Gulf Coast this year. The two organizations plan to restore and enhance over 20,000 acres of wetland habitat in the Gulf Coast.

Funds from the grant will be used to flood a critical rice region of coastal Louisiana and Texas. In doing so, they will establish viable migration and wintering habitats. These habitats will be extremely valuable and important if oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill makes its way into fresh salinity marshes throughout the summer and fall.
