Stone Sheep Hunt, Day 9
9/18/2009
Day 9, 4:20 p.m. PDT
Most of the past two days we've been glued to our saddles, packing in the meat, hide and horns of my ram.
We found our first spike camp abandoned and dismantled, our partners obviously headed in themselves. So after a night's sleep we've done the same.
Now we're coming off the mountain that overlooks Collingwood's lodge on Bug Lake, walking our horses down the steep grade. No need to hurry now. Naturally we're anxious to share our success, strut a bit and talk trash with our buddies. Can't wait to get a look at Drew's face when he sees what we've got. My ram's not as big as his monster, but it's pretty darned close.
As much as I am looking forward to what's about to happen, a big part of me wishes this wouldn't end just yet. Sheep hunting can be pretty rough on a 50-something office worker like me, but knowing I still can makes me want to do more.
Go back.
